I'm not sure if I can convince Brandon that an awesome camera is a wise purchase, but just in case I'm doing a little research into it. Does anyone have recommendations on an SLR? Things you like/ dislike about yours?
The Canon Rebel seems to be the cheapest out there, and I'm guessing it would serve my purposes for having quality pictures and the ability to expand my photography abilities a little. I don't plan on getting more lenses, but maybe down the road?
Tell me what you know... brands? features to look for? books that will help me with all the aperture/ shutter speed stuff I can't remember... etc. etc.

yes! Do it. I have the Canon Rebel and have loved it. There are more expensive things out there, but you can do soooooo much with the Rebel. That said, I haven't even learned 1/2 of what it can do & it still provides high quality stuff for me. I have a book or two that you can even borrow if you want! Whatever you pick though... enjoy. I know of a site also that does tutorials... I think she uses a Nikon, but they're easily applied to the Rebel as well. How exciting! :)
I'm strictly a Canon girl- they have the best technology, but their lenses cost more than a Nikon. I'm more than a little snobby about it, but I'd only consider Canon or Nikon. The Canon Rebels are good enough for the vast majority of people- even the cheapest one. I'd buy that one and save up for a better lens to get someday.
Definitely learn how the camera works- you'll be able to get much better pictures when you decide what you want the camera to do than when the camera tries to figure it out.
Canon 5d mark II. Go big or go home.
the rebel. it will do everything you need/want. your money should go toward a rockin' lens...lenses make all the difference.
I so want an SLR. No talking Todd into it yet. I'm trying to talk the girls into breaking the camera we have now so I have some justification.
