alternatives

I'm realizing that I'm a person that doesn't care too much about traditions. If they have a purpose behind them that's fine but why do we eat cake at weddings? Personally I think wedding cake is one of my least favorite foods. (that might be an exaggeration, but I just really don't like it) I was at a reception recently where all they had was really nice cheesecake and some kind of thick chocolate pie. No other random foods to snack on, no disgusting cake, I thought it was great. I heard of someone having cupcakes on platters with pillars as if it were a wedding cake. So it makes me wonder, what other wedding cake substitutes are there? Brandon suggested ding dongs. I think a couple of vermonsters from Ben and Jerry's would be good.

there was a ding dong cake at a reception i worked at, it was hilarious, but borderline tacky cuz they put flowers and stuff around it to make it look not like ding dongs. but i definitely have to agree with you, most wedding cakes are disgusting and EXPENSIVE! i say no wedding cake...but you're the one who has to decide.

I say you should just have a milkshake dispenser.

If you can guarantee all you can drink milkshakes, I'm coming to your reception.

I thought everyone knew that the wedding cake was just to distract everyone from the really good food. Everyone in the family takes turns eating ribs in the back room.

If you want something unique you could go with several hot dogs that use twinkis as a bun and easy cheese as a topping. Believe it or not this is still not as nasty as wedding cake.

I don't think I want to test that theory to find out. I'll just take your word for it.

When my sister got married, she had three wedding cakes, special compilation cd party favors, live music, and ice sculptures. Seemed a bit much to me. I like your idea for Vermonsters...if you could keep them from melting all over the table.

What about wedding fruit. Like really nice apples or something? I know that some orchards supply apples the size of softballs! Ooh! Maybe carmel apples?

I don't know how many of you are familiar with Bounce Back (a motivational tape put out by the church in the 80's). It has nothing to do with weddings stuff but it's the funniest cheesiest tape ever and we talked about how great that would be to have that on CD's to give out to all our guests. Brandon thought we should give out Bounce Back: the movie on DVD's, but I refused.

I like Brandons idea. But it would have to be the Bounce back re-make by Rebecca and Family!!! All your friends have seen it RIGHT?!?!?!?! :)

no way, there are very specific qualifications to be allowed to watch that movie.

I'm not against the wedding cake so much as the traditional cutting of the cake. I loved my wedding cake, but that's because I specifically picked out lemon cake with raspberry filling, yum. I'm not a big fan of frosting, but it definitely tastes better than fondant, bleh. Good luck with all the decisions...

Instead of wedding cake, you could have wedding steak. Everybody likes a good steak.

i'm with stefani, in fact i had a great steak last night and steak instead of wedding cake is a marvelous idea and it would definitely up the attendance and upped attendance = more gifts!

we decided on cheesecake. I hope that doesn't let you guys down. we'll try to keep all those ideas in mind for future parties though. Except the twinkies and cheese idea, sorry but we're just going to avoid that altogether.
