I enjoy learning about politics and I wish I put more time into thoroughly understanding each issue, but I do what I can. I at least feel like I have a basic grasp of the major issues. Brandon and I watched the debate tonight, and it was interesting. Obama is such a good speaker and debater, sometimes McCain smiles and just looks awkward. It was getter easier and easier to agree with Obama by the way he presents things.
I was talking to my Dad about the debate and he loves politics. He thinks the debates are pointless because they can say whatever sounds good, but what matters is if you really think they can do what they claim they will when they become president. He said to look at their history and their core beliefs. Obama is incredibly liberal and even though he can make things sound good, I think I'm going to have to stick with McCain. There are a lot of things I don't like about him, but I think his core beliefs are closer to mine than Obamas.

I agree with you. McCain's ideals are much closer to mine even though I would have ultimately preferred someone else. And often the debates are exactly what your dad said. They can make all the promises they want, but in the end only one or two of the hundreds will be kept. I'd rather have a chance that it's a promise I believe in.
A fun place you might like to go is procon.org. It's a nonpartisan, nonprofit group that has great information about all the candidates' views. Hit the 2008 Election link then you can click the "Take the 2008 Candidate Election Survey" and see how your views line up with the candidates. Then if you have TONS of time you can see what the candidates have actually said/written about the issues that matter most to you. (In all your spare time, of course).
i hear ya sista. i thought that i was decided but now i'm not. i'm still up in the air. but if i vote for obama i will have to take that to the grave when it comes to my dad. he would probably disown me. jk
i'm with you lex. i wish i could vote "d" none of the above for this one, but you have to vote so you can at least complain about it later. politics have sadly become such a joke to me because i have never really felt like the candidates really care about the american people at all.
p.s. i think i'm gonna write in mickey mouse this year. anyone with me?
I totally agree. I almost copied your entire post and then put it onto my blog, but then I remembered the whole Dad bit, and so.... I think I should try to get my dad to say the same stuff and then I can do it.
