Taking Jiffy Lube down

The clutch went out in our car, lame, right? We took it into the shop and it turns our our transmission is shot too. Some fun. The mechanic told us the cause was lack of transmission fluid. There was only a couple ounces of transmission fluid when there should be two quarts. hmmm. That's funny, we just had the transmission fluid checked and filled a few months ago by Jiffy Lube. Maybe there was a leak? Not according to the mechanic, no leak evidence whatsoever.
So we've been talking with the Jiffy Lube manager and he's trying to claim there was a leak anyway. Even though a couple times he said, maybe we checked the fluids, maybe we didn't. He said if they didn't check it all they would reimburse us for was the service that wasn't performed. Is it just me, or does that sound ridiculous? They didn't put any transmission fluid in the car, therefore the transmission goes out, and it's not their fault? I've never been to court before, but this seems like a good time to try it out.

Definitely their fault. I can see them reimbursing you if they claimed that they filled the fluids and you had to fill them yourself later. But if they claimed to have fixed something and then your transmission blows up because they lied about it, I'd definitely say they owe you a new transmission. Time to look up Ronnie Steelman, Esquire.

This wasn't the one in East Bay was it? MY SIL had an issue a few years ago with her car where after driving all over the place she filled up her tank at Sam's Club and drove over there for an oil change. After that her perfectly running car was not perfectly running. Result... water in the gas tank. Hmmmm.

Another family in our ward took their car in and after what took forever the tech came and asked him if they had problems getting their car started? Nope. Not until that JL got their hands on it. It was a whole redonckulous mess of problems that they "caused". I believe they got JL to take care of those issues.

That place is a joke. I hope you can get it all resolved. It just seems like common sense would tell the manager that when someone comes in and pays for a service that includes checking the fluid level and adding more fluid if needed... that that is what happens. If it doesn't and there's a problem... you shouldn't be responsible. If that's the case that you need to re-check everything that the "professionals" did... why do we need them?

Sorry for your frustrations. This type of thing just makes me so angry. Have you checked with the BBB to see if they have a history?

You go get those Jiffy scum! If they don't pay up, Nate and I will gladly help you start an anti-Jiffy movement. We've had bad luck with them too.

I'll tell you what we can do. I'll represent you for free and then take a 33% cut of whatever you win.

Do you happen to keep reciepts for the work you get done on your car? They will list all the services they perform and brake it down for you usually. We had our oil changed after we moved down here and they even told us in what condition they found our fluids. Take another look at yours if you have one and that will definitely help in court. I say go for it!!
